Privacy Policy

Summary

We do not collect any personal information from children. TypingGamesKids is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Every game can be played with no account and no login, and no form asks a child for a name, email address or photo.

Children can choose to adopt an optional typing pet. A pet is a made-up name picked by the site plus a 4-digit PIN; it contains no personal information. Adult teachers can create an optional teacher account.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information from children
  • Location data
  • Photos, videos, or audio recordings
  • Persistent identifiers used to track individual children across sites

Information We May Collect

We use privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand how the site is used in aggregate. This may include:

  • Pages visited and time spent (aggregate, not per-user)
  • Device type and browser (e.g., "iPad, Safari" — not individual device IDs)
  • General geographic region (country/state level, not street address)

This data is used solely to improve the site and is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Typing Pets (Optional, No Personal Information)

A typing pet lets a child keep badges and appear on game leaderboards, and restore them on another device. Playing never requires one.

  • What a pet is: a name the site generates (for example "Royal Thunder #4561"), a cartoon animal picture and a 4-digit PIN the child picks. The child never types their own name. The PIN is stored only as a one-way hash.
  • What a pet stores: the pet name, picture, a country flag the child chooses (or "Worldwide"), experience points, badge count and best score per game. Nothing else.
  • What is public: the pet name, picture, flag and scores on the leaderboards, and any game review the pet leaves (see below).
  • Deleting a pet: open "Login name & PIN" on any game page and choose "Remove or delete this pet". "Remove from this device" clears it from the browser; "Delete my pet everywhere" (with the PIN) deletes the pet record and removes its name from every leaderboard immediately.

Game Reviews and the Suggestion Box

  • Reviews: a pet can rate a game with stars and a short comment. Comments are filtered and anything flagged is held for an adult to check before it is shown. Only the pet name is shown with a review.
  • Suggestion box: notes go only to the people who make the site and are never published. Students are not asked for a name or email; the optional email field is shown only to adults who want a reply. To limit spam, we keep a one-way hash of the sender's IP address for 24 hours.

Teacher Accounts (Adults Only)

Teachers, tutors and other educators may create an optional account to save their classroom's Class Race results. Teacher accounts are for adults only; students never get a teacher-style account and never need to sign in to play or to join a Class Race.

  • What we collect: your name and email address from Google Sign-In (or just the email address you enter, if you sign in with an e-mail link), and the profile details you choose to enter (display name, school, district, city, state or province, country, grade taught, class size, how you found us).
  • Why: to give you a classroom page and weekly ranking, and, because TypingGamesKids is a free non-commercial project, to understand which schools and classrooms it is helping.
  • What is public: your display name, school and location appear on your classroom page and, if you opt in, on the weekly school leaderboard, together with class averages. Your email address is never shown.
  • What is never stored: student names, nicknames or accounts. A race saves one team row (number of racers, class average WPM, fastest WPM and average accuracy) plus one row per racer containing only a rank, a score and, if the teacher uses seat numbers, the seat number the student picked. A seat number is a number the teacher hands out in class; who sits in which seat is known only to the teacher and is never entered on this site. Practice assignments store the same: seat number, score and time, nothing else.
  • Your control: edit your profile or delete your account at any time from /teachers/; deletion removes your classrooms and their results immediately.
  • Sharing: we do not sell or share teacher information with anyone. Data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure in the United States.

Local Storage

Game progress (scores, badges, levels completed) is saved in your browser's localStorage. Without a typing pet it stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. With a pet, the pet name, badge count, points and best score per game are also saved to our servers so the leaderboards and other devices can use them. Browser data can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data.

Third-Party Services

We do not display advertisements and do not use advertising or retargeting pixels. The only third-party analytics tool is Google Analytics 4, described above. We do not share data with social media platforms.
