TypeRacer vs TypingGamesKids

TypeRacer made typing races famous. For a class of kids, what matters is who else is on the track and what they can say.

Facts checked against each site's own pages on

Disclosure: we built one of the sites on this page. TypingGamesKids is a free, ad-free student project with no paid tier, and no company on this page paid to be included or ranked. Where another site does something better than ours, this page says so.

Where TypeRacer Is Stronger

  • Real-time racing in 50 languages.
  • Private racetracks you can make without an account.
  • A school edition with a private, ad-free space for a class.

Where TypingGamesKids Is Stronger

Private by default, no chat

TypeRacer's public races match you with random opponents, and its private racetracks include a chat panel. A TypingGamesKids Class Race is a private room for one class, and the site has no chat or messaging at all.

Built for younger kids

TypeRacer races are quotes from books, movies and songs, and its terms warn content may be objectionable. TypingGamesKids races run in games made for kids, from falling letters for 5-year-olds to sentence games for middle school.

Free without an upgrade

TypeRacer's classroom-safe School Edition is a paid product. TypingGamesKids' Class Race and teacher dashboard are free, with no ads.

No accounts for students

Students join a Class Race with a 6-digit code and an optional seat number; no student account, name or email is ever entered.

Using both

A Note From the Founder

TypeRacer is where many people first raced other typists. Class Race keeps that feeling but puts only your own class on the track, with nothing to chat and nothing to buy.

How This Comparison Was Checked

Every fact about another site comes from that site's own pages (homepage, pricing, help center, privacy policy or terms), read on September 29, 2026. Review sites, search snippets and memory don't count. When a site's own pages disagree with each other, we say so or quote the specific page. When a site does not publish a price, we write "quote-based" and don't guess.

"Ads" means the free version shows advertising, either stated in the site's own policy or seen as ad scripts in its page code. "Account" means what a student needs before practicing. Prices and plans change, so check the source before you buy.
