The Short Answer
Typing.com is a K-12 keyboarding curriculum with a free teacher portal and free roster sync (Google Classroom, Clever, ClassLink); its free version shows ads outside the K-1 lessons, and progress saves only with an account. TypingGamesKids is 34 free typing games with no ads, no student accounts and live Class Races, but no roster sync. Pick Typing.com to run the curriculum; add TypingGamesKids for game practice and races.

Where Typing.com Is Stronger
Typing.com is the stronger choice when the school needs administration. Its pages list:
- Free roster sync with google classroom, clever and classlink.
- 30 keyboard layouts.
- A k-1 curriculum built for children who cannot read yet, with no ads.
Where TypingGamesKids Is Stronger
No ads in any grade
Typing.com hides ads for Kindergarten and 1st grade, but its privacy policy says the free versions contain advertising managed by Playwire. TypingGamesKids has no ads on any page for any age.
Progress without accounts
On Typing.com you can practice logged out, but progress is not saved, and a child under 13 needs an adult to create the account. TypingGamesKids never creates student accounts; teachers follow progress by seat number, and kids can still earn badges on their own device.
More games, and they are the main event
Typing.com lists seven games in its class settings next to its lessons. TypingGamesKids is 34 games, each with its own levels, badges and leaderboard, sorted by grade from Pre-K to middle school.
Live class races built in
Typing.com's in-house competition is a weekly class scoreboard, and live racing lives on its sister site Nitro Type. TypingGamesKids runs live Class Races on the same site, in any game, with a 6-digit room code and a QR code on the projector.

Using both
Typing.com can carry the curriculum and the rostered reporting. When a class finishes a unit, open a TypingGamesKids Class Race as the reward. Students join with a code, not a login, so it takes a minute to start.

Typing.com does a lot for school administrators that we don't: roster sync, 30 layouts, a full K-12 course. This site is built around a different rule, from our about page: no accounts, because a six-year-old cannot read a signup form, and no ads.

How This Comparison Was Checked
Every fact about another site comes from that site's own pages (homepage, pricing, help center, privacy policy or terms), read on September 29, 2026. Review sites, search snippets and memory don't count. When a site's own pages disagree with each other, we say so or quote the specific page. When a site does not publish a price, we write "quote-based" and don't guess.
"Ads" means the free version shows advertising, either stated in the site's own policy or seen as ad scripts in its page code. "Account" means what a student needs before practicing. Prices and plans change, so check the source before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Typing.com free?
Its teacher portal is free with unlimited students and classes. The free version shows ads (except in the Kindergarten and 1st grade curriculum) and keeps data for 70 days, according to its plan table. The paid PLUS Edition is ad-free and quote-based for schools.
Does Typing.com need an account?
You can practice without one, but progress is not saved. Typing.com says children under 13 may not create their own free account without consent from a parent, guardian or teacher. TypingGamesKids has no student accounts at all.
Is TypingGamesKids connected to Typing.com?
No. They are separate, unrelated sites. Typing.com and Nitro Type are made by the same company (Teaching.com); TypingGamesKids is an independent site built by a student.
Which works better on Chromebooks?
Both run in the browser. Typing.com lists Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on laptops, Chromebooks and tablets. TypingGamesKids games run in any modern browser with a physical keyboard and need no install or login.
Does TypingGamesKids sync with Google Classroom?
Not as a roster. Teachers post a practice link in Google Classroom and students pick their seat number. Typing.com offers full Google Classroom roster sync on its free plan.
