Typing Test Games

Typing test games measure your words per minute and accuracy while you play, so you get a speed number without sitting through a plain test. The best one here is Type Master: a 60 or 120 second run with live WPM and accuracy on screen. Six games on this site report WPM, all free, with no login and no ads.

What Makes a Game a Typing Test Game?

Most typing games give you points, lives or a wave number. That tells you whether you did better than last time, but it does not tell you how fast you type. A typing test game runs on a clock and turns your correct keystrokes into WPM, and usually an accuracy percentage too.

We went through the code of all 36 games on the site and kept only the ones that put WPM on screen. Six run on a fixed timer, which makes their numbers comparable from one run to the next. They are ranked below by how close they get to a real speed test.

The 6 Best Typing Speed Games, Ranked

Every game below shows a WPM number. The notes say exactly what is measured live and what you only see at the end.

  1. 1. Type Master: best overall typing test game

Measures: live WPM and live accuracy; score = WPM × accuracy. Length: 60 or 120 seconds, your choice.

Best for a test-like number because the run length is fixed and the passages ramp from short lowercase phrases to full sentences with capitals and punctuation, like a real exam. The 120 second option is the best stamina check on the site short of the 3 minute test.

  2. 2. Speed Racer: best quick speed typing game

Measures: live WPM and live accuracy; score = WPM × accuracy. Length: 45 seconds, or less if you reach the 600 m finish line first.

Best for a fast check between other tasks. You type short phrases to drive the car, and both numbers stay on screen the whole race. Finishing early is the goal, and your WPM is calculated on the time you actually used.

  3. 3. Speed Duel: best WPM game for breaking a plateau

Measures: your live WPM next to the computer's WPM; accuracy on the result screen. Length: 75 seconds or first to 1200 m.

Best for pushing past your usual speed. You type full sentences with capitals and punctuation, and the computer opponent starts at 26 WPM, rises each sentence and tracks about 92% of your live speed, so it never falls far behind. Seeing your WPM beside its WPM is the most direct speed pressure on the site.

  4. 4. Typing Race: best word-level race

Measures: live WPM; accuracy and words typed on the result screen. Length: 60 seconds or first to 1000 m.

Best for typists still under about 30 WPM. Single words instead of sentences, a CPU car that starts at 15 WPM, and every wrong key rolls your car back 2 metres, so clean typing wins. It is the gentler version of Speed Duel.

  5. 5. Sentence Safari: best accuracy test with punctuation

Measures: live accuracy and checkpoints (out of 10); WPM on the result screen. Length: 90 seconds.

Best for finding out whether capitals, commas and periods are slowing you down. Sentences must be typed exactly, so a lower WPM here than in Speed Racer points straight at punctuation.

  6. 6. Bike Typing: best first WPM game for younger kids

Measures: distance live; WPM, accuracy and words typed on the result screen. Length: 60 seconds.

Best for a child's first speed number. Difficulty 2, short words, ages 6 to 9. The WPM only appears after the ride, which keeps beginners looking at the words instead of the counter.

Fast Typing Games That Show WPM at the End

Four more games print words per minute on the result screen but have no fixed clock. You play until you run out of lives or finish, so one run might last 40 seconds and the next three minutes. The WPM is real, just harder to compare between runs.

  • Ghost Typing: live accuracy, WPM and wave reached at the end, 3 lives.
  • Keyboard Jump: live accuracy, WPM and ledges climbed at the end, 3 lives.
  • Plane Typing: live accuracy, WPM and distance flown at the end, 3 lives.
  • Typing Puzzle: live accuracy, WPM and puzzles finished at the end.

The zombie games, Beat Master and Code Breaker do not report WPM. They score waves, combos or codes decoded plus accuracy. They are still some of the best speed training here, and the harder typing games for adults page groups them by skill.

Typing Test Game vs Plain Typing Test

Both use the standard formula: correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. The difference is everything around that formula.

Typing test gamesPlain typing test
Length45 to 120 seconds, some end early at a finish lineFixed 1 or 3 minutes
TextGame words, phrases or sentencesA passage matched to grade level
PressureOpponent, finish line or scoreOnly the clock
MistakesCost distance or score as well as accuracyLower accuracy only
Best useDaily practice you will actually repeatA number to compare week to week

Expect your game WPM to wobble. Short runs swing more, a race opponent pulls some people up and rattles others, and Speed Duel's full sentences are harder than Speed Racer's lowercase phrases. That is fine for practice. For the number you write down, take the plain 1 or 3 minute typing test once a week and play the games in between.

To see whether your number is any good, the is my typing speed good checker gives a straight answer by age, and the average typing speed chart has the full WPM table from age 5 to adult.

Which WPM Game Should You Play?

  • You want one number, fast: Speed Racer, 45 seconds.
  • You want a number close to a real test: Type Master on 120 seconds.
  • You are stuck at the same speed: Speed Duel. Try to keep the gap open for the full 75 seconds.
  • Your accuracy is under 95%: Sentence Safari, then Typing Race, where each wrong key costs distance.
  • You still look at the keyboard: skip WPM for now and start with the typing games for beginners. Speed comes after the keys are in your fingers.
  • You want to race people, not a computer: the typing race games page has the car races and the live class race for a whole room.

How This Compares to Big Typing Game Sites

Larger sites list far more games. TypingGames.Zone, for example, has 155 arcade typing games and a separate speed test on the 500 most common English words, and it runs ads (as checked in September 2026). This site has 36 games and fewer of them are timed tests, but every one listed above tells you exactly what it measures, and none of them show ads or ask for a login.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typing test game?

A typing test game is a game that measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy while you play, instead of only giving you points. On this site six games run on a clock and report WPM: Type Master, Speed Racer, Speed Duel, Typing Race, Sentence Safari and Bike Typing.

Which typing game is closest to a real typing test?

Type Master. You pick a 60 or 120 second run, type passages that get harder as the clock runs down, ending in full sentences with capitals and punctuation, and see live WPM and accuracy the whole time. The score is WPM multiplied by accuracy, so careless speed does not pay.

Is the WPM in a game the same as a typing test WPM?

The formula is the same: correct characters divided by 5, divided by minutes. The number usually comes out a little different because games use shorter runs, easier or harder text, and pressure from a timer or an opponent. Treat a game score as practice and the plain 1 or 3 minute test as your official number.

What is a good score in a WPM game?

For adults, around 40 WPM is the commonly cited average and 60+ is fast. Kids are slower and that is normal. In Speed Duel the computer opponent starts at 26 WPM, so beating it on the first sentences means you are already typing faster than that.

Do the zombie typing games show WPM?

No. Zombie Survival and Zombie Apocalypse score you by wave reached, zombies or sentences cleared, and accuracy. They are good speed training, but if you want a WPM number at the end, play one of the six timed games on this page.

Are these typing speed games free?

Yes. Every game runs in the browser with no login, no download and no ads. The site is built for kids, but the games on this page work for any age, including adults who want a quick WPM check.

Start With a 45 Second Race

Play Speed Racer once to get a first WPM, then try to beat it in Type Master.
